About the Nintendo GameCube

The GameCube (2001–2007) was Nintendo's first disc-based home console. Its compact cubic design, unique handle, and iconic mini-DVD format set it apart. Despite modest sales, it became one of the most beloved platforms of its era — and a collector's favourite today.

Historical Context

Launched in Japan on September 14, 2001 — just three days after September 11. Nintendo chose to proceed, believing people needed entertainment more than ever. The console arrived amid fierce competition from PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox, yet carved out a devoted fanbase with titles like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Metroid Prime, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
